The Challenge
The team at Maple Mountain High School requested designs for their yearbook theme "Above and Beyond." The designs needed to use superhero tropes and comic themes without feeling cartoony or childish. The concept needed to help tell the story that the students went above and beyond and they are the real heroes. The design package request included a cover, front endsheet, title page, and division page design.
The Solution
I began with a custom hero illustration of a non-descript hero above the earth so the reader had a sense of epic heroics. I used custom typography and photo treatments to carry the theme through the publication.
